Oregon: Is It Really What It’s Cracked Up To Be?

I’m on vacation in Oregon, and unfortunately, my wireless Internet goes on and off haphazardly. So every time I want to use the Internet, I have to take my laptop to the main building, so my posts will possibly be delayed by a day or so. So I’m typing all my posts in a Word document and I’m going to paste one each day into Blogger! Yay! Anyway, about Oregon: Newport, Oregon is rainy and wet. At least for today. I want to see how the weather is in the summer. Then I won’t have to use prejudice towards this city. We’re staying in a condo right next to the ocean and we’re spending most of the time inside. It can sometimes be a little boring, but I find ways to make things interesting. So here’s a rundown of today…

  • In the morning I got up around 7:30 and felt unbelievably tired. My brother is the one who disturbs me, of course. I managed to get out of bed and get dressed, and by around 9 we were ready to go.
  • In case you didn’t know, I live in Washington. So the trip is roughly four hours long from my home to Newport. I brought along the ordinary: my laptop, mp3 player, two books, and some DVD’s to pass the time. The only problem was the battery running out. So we ended up stopping at Radio Shack to buy a $30 adapter to plug my laptop into the cigarette lighter. It worked very nicely!
  • Hours pass, a movie is watched, a few chapters of Alex Rider are read, and episode of Knoxkast Radio is listened to, and we finally reach our destination. My legs are stiff, although we did stop at a Burger King earlier, and we first see Grandma waving at us on a balcony high up in one of the condos. So we run up and get acquainted with our home that we’ll be living in for the next four days and finally are settled.
  • I get my laptop set up and I become thrilled that I get wi-fi in our room. I use it for a while, but then instantly after ten minutes, the Internet turns off and I can no longer access it no matter where I am.
We have a dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, and broccoli. I become stuffed and go up to the one room upstairs: my bedroom.
  • Boredom starts to set in and I start messing with the video camera and some paper coasters. I become crazed about the coasters and how their curvy edges interlock into each other. I plan on making a coaster montage when I get home. Serious.
  • I get cookies and bring them upstairs, eating them in front of the camera. I’m seriously becoming delusional here. But I manage to eat all the cookies and rest on the bed.
  • We plan on going to the beach, only to get there and have it start pouring down rain lightly but in vast quantities. The sand here is a brownish tan. We have grayish sand back in Washington. Plus their beaches are a lot cleaner. It sort of forms a scale. Washington has messy beaches, Oregon is intermediate, and California is perfect. That’s what you get with the equator.
  • We come back to find that Grandma and grandpa came back before us, and I do some more stuff and keep trying continuously to get my connection back. To no avail, of course.
We decided to go to the pool. We observed it earlier, and it was murky. But we thought it was okay so we went in for about an hour and then became tired. We came back and got back into our clothes.
  • When we got back from the pool, Castaway was on (that movie with Tom Hanks) and we watched the last half of it.
  • Welcome to now. I’m typing on my laptop while Grandpa, Dad, and my brother Kevin watches the beginning of Castaway (it showed again right after it ended). My Mom has taken a shower and I’m about ready to go to bed. Oh, and it’s 10:21 right now. Feels like 9 though. Grandpa, Dad, and Kevin are planning on watching Castaway until the plane crashes, and then it’s time to snooze. Zzzzzzzzz…

And there you have it. My day in a nicely organized bulleted list. And I managed to make a reasonably long post today. Oh my gosh! Now Grandpa, Dad, and Kevin are watching this thing about these animals attacking! And there’s this woman who was attacked by a cat in a drug store! OH! SO GRAPHIC!!! I’m mentally scarred now. So good night!
